Blogs We Love: Canned Fashion
We love finding inspiring fashion bloggers like Natalie from Canned Fashion. A former fashion editor and now freelance writer, illustrator and consultant, Natalie’s laid back style is effortlessly chic and her blog is a tutorial in how to pull off relaxed layering, pops of colour and strong accessorising with aplomb. Canned Fashion chronicles everything from press days to photo shoots, fashion weeks to coffee breaks – with the odd pug thrown in for good measure – making it one of our must-read blog spots.
What inspired you to start your blog?
I'd been reading fashion blogs for a while and really wanted to start my own. Plus, I wanted a place to showcase my illustrations (and shopping finds!).
Describe Canned Fashion in three words...
Bright, fun and irreverent (I hope!).
Where do you find inspiration for your blog posts?
I'm obsessed with fashion so there is always some new shopping find (or desire) that I feel compelled to blog about. I tend to collect inspiration from everywhere: blogs, magazines, friends, and my favourite source – Pinterest!
What’s been the highlight since your started Canned Fashion?
Attending fashion weeks, meeting editors who I admire, and working with my favourite brands.
Tell us about your experience in the fashion industry?
During university, I interned at A LOT of magazines – Vogue, Elle, Harper's Bazaar... you name it, I interned there! When I graduated I worked as an editor for online magazine SheerLuxe.com. I went on to work for NET-A-PORTER.COM, working on the magazine and also looking after social media. I got to travel around the world during my two years there – it was incredible. Now, I'm freelance! I do all sorts of things – illustration, writing, brand and social media consultancy, and of course... working on Canned Fashion!
How would you describe your style?
Colourful, fun and sometimes a little grandma-inspired. I love the sixties and seventies. And I also like items with an urban edge – like my wedged trainers!
What’s the biggest splurge item you’re ever bought?
An Isabel Marant boucle jacket with leather epaulettes. I bought it as a present to myself in Paris for surviving my first ever fashion month. The next month was frugal, to say the least...
What would we find in your makeup bag?
MAC Ruby Woo (my favourite red lipstick), Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua foundation, Stila Convertible Colour blusher and Rimmel liquid eyeliner (for emphasising beauty spots as well as drawing a cat eye).
